I have used the Home Depot insulation foam for non structural parts.  Even though it is about 2 pounds/cubic foot, it does not have the large cells like the big blocks of foam we use for the wings, etc.  I have found this smaller cell structure reduces the peel strength considerable.  Also, it is more delicate then the large cell stuff.  I believe this is because the large cell foam has thicker plastic at the cell walls.
