Jay, actually this 235 came out of a friend's purchased Long EZ with updraft cooling and I know exactly what you mean. The guy should have welded the fins on the sump. We replaced it with a fresh 290 GPU with VO 435 pistons (and a real oil cooler) and what a difference in power. It's yellow.

Every bit helps, but this apparently is a tractor install. On our pushers (with updraft cooling) we benefit from having the sump exposed to incoming cold air.....

--------I noticed this budget oil cooler on a 235, fins tack welded onto the oil screen housing. I wonder if it helped cool the oil.
