Re: Control cables

I bought my CableCraft BlueMax cabled from California PushPull.  Just be absolutely certain you have the right ends (threaded or notched) the length, etc all correct.  If you mess it up, you get to pay twice.  Ask me how I know...  Need a set of cables with threaded ends for both ends?  I have those in the "spare parts" bin.  Completely unused.

Hi Don,
I used Red Jacket push-pull control cables from the marine store (google them). They are great since there is no metal to metal contact inside. Never had problem with them. Some people had them on their boats for 20 years without problems.
The cables are sold in one foot increments.

I second the experience with Tom from TS Flightlines.  He built all of the hoses for my Cozy Mk-IV.  Three fuel lines and two oil cooler lines.  He does an excellent job, the hoses are beautiful, and the costs were just barely more than it would have cost me to buy all of the components from any of the normal vendors.  These hoses should be a once-in-a-lifetime buy, and I didn't feel at all bad about parting with some money to get them done right.  They shipped almost instantly.  I want to say I emailed him Sunday with the sizes and ends/orientations and I had them in my hand on Tuesday evening.

I had to get new oil cooler lines for my plane. Many of the RV builders get the teflon/SS braided lines made by Tom Swearengen at TS Flightlines (www.tsflightlines.com) and are very happy with them. He caters to the experimental market. The guy gets them to you fast and custom made to your required length and fittings. I believe he uses the AE "industrial" hose instead of the "aviation" hose but having the same specs. He uses a professional crimping/swaging machine and pressure tests them. I ordered a set, they are not cheap, but am happy with the service and quality.

I concur 100%. The AE466 hose is an Aeroquip medium pressure 666 teflon/SS hose with an integral firesleeve (comes in a few colors, if you want variety).

Expensive, but will last the life of the plane.

ACS sells 666 hose assemblies, with or without standard firesleeve - that's a small step down from the AE466 and still very good - don't know if they do the AE466. I've gotten my hoses from Varga Air:

but there are many hose houses - just google "Aircraft Hose".

Don't even think about  the MIL6000D or 303 hose.

I might suggest that EZs with baggage pods not fly near Washington DC.

I make no accusations, just an observation.

Dave Ronnenburg was working with some government contract people after
closing down the kit business. I have a video of was was claimed a
totally attonomous takeoff, flight, and landing. Perhaps they found a
willing government, but it wasn't the USA.

Yeah, a bit different from remotely piloted vehicle, but a short trip to
the hobby store for some of the current RC stuff might fix that.

... and here's a link to another view of Pakistans revolutionary new 'drone'.

I've already been chased down by a car-full of X-files fans convinced that I was a drone. They were really disappointed when I showed them where I, the human pilot, sat, but still had to be shown the manual controls before they conceded it wasn't a CIA plot to catch them smoking weed in their backyard.

Let's hope that sanity prevails in the USA.

I note that the Pakistani drone is called the Burraq. Sounds close to that which is was ripped off from?

It would probably have been cheaper for the Pakistani Government to buy up all the EZ derivatives for sale, and convert them. Plus that would have boosted residual value too.

Hidalgo's glasses

Bruce Hughes

Hi Group

Someone mentioned getting sunglasses and shaded prescription glasses from Hidalgo's

They no longer make prescription glasses. I copied the following from their website:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shutting down our business after 47 years

Old age and failing health has caught up with us, we are shutting down the business to
retire. We regret not being able to continue operations for a period of time to allow all
of our customer to stock up on their favorite items, but failing health simply won't allow it.
So our only goal now is to sell out as quickly as possible.

This is the final closeout sale for our store, we are not reordering product but trying to
sell everything in the store, everything must go so we can move out of the building.
We are planning to shut it down April 24th.

We have quit taking orders for prescription lenses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there another company similar to Hidalgo's ?
