Re: Is there a kick-back problem?

Hi Tim and the Group

Thank you VERY much for the information.

I had forgotten if the magneto with or without the impulse coupler was
the dangerous way.

I actually have 2 test pilots. One of them is sure to start with the magneto
turned on although I tell them frequently to keep it grounded.

Is there a circuit diagram handy to keep it grounded until the engine is an X
rpms?

I cannot design one myself.

I will appreciate any comments.

Bruce

I stopped using MGS 7 years ago due to a lot of reports of bad allergic reactions to it.  There are also reprints of reactions to EZ Poxy too, but nothing as violent and MGS victims.

I am a stippler for safety :p

I have been building my Cozy MKIV with MGS 335 epoxy the entire time.  All this time, I never got the hang of stippling... it never worked for me.  I always had much better luck with a squeegee and a hair dryer, sometimes using a pick to fix some small air bubbles.

Now that I'm building the strakes (the fuel tanks).... I'm using EZ 10 Resin with EZ 87 hardener.  My first layup with the brown stuff.. and I actually do like the smell.  It smells real.

Anyway, I tried stippling tonight... Oh.. my... gosh... stippling really works with EZ Poxy!    It doesn't work that well, for me, with MGS.  It always made things worse.  I think the plans were developed, including stippling, with a thicker epoxy like EZ Poxy.

I'd like to throw in my $0.02; buying a few yards of cloth for a Cozy or LE project is just silly. By doing so you end up with a large amount of waste and it is false economy both from waste and higher pricing for cut goods and then again in shipping. Over the course of building you will use a minimum of one entire roll of each, maybe two (been a few years) so start by buying a roll of each from a composites supplier. If you need to stop building for awhile, put it in a HD bag with desiccant.
We have kept all of our scrap and it is a very small amount.

Yes, one of the best episodes!

Perhaps you could write up some recommendations for ordering so that others won't have the same experience. Then we can rehearse in front of the mirror and carefully place the call!

Ron,
You remember the soup Nazi?  Its a Seinfeld episode from the 1990's.  Best soup in NYC, but if you asked any questions about the soup, or messed up while ordering then it was "No Soup for You!"  Still the best soup.

Same situation here, best source I've found for glass.  But with too many questions, its "No Glass For You!"

Lol, no kidding!!  :)

What!,
I have ordered material from Stave for many years and always had a good experience. It's unfortunate that people have a bad day and say stupid stuff to nice people.
Some one with the bad attitude needs to apologize to Steve.
Steve, your a great guy and have always supplied quality materials. Keep up the good work as I will continue to be a customer of yours.

The biggest thing was asking me how could I be in business if I didnt know how to price stuff and just on and about making sure I would send the right stuff. One thing I want to make clear is Im not after selling 7725 and 7715 to cozy builders. I had 4000 yards 7725 50" woven at one time but there was very little profit. 7715 is very pricey to have it woven so its not a market Im after. I dont know what Andy's problem is. He was a jerk to me first. I sold him 10 yards of 7725 38" for $60 with free shipping and free of snags unlike what I got from an approved vendor years ago.   I think he just likes to be right and just doesnt know how to just let it go. Im glad my wife isnt like that.  Steve Thayer

Ok then Steve can you enlighten us.  Not in detail, just generally.  Obviously it was a dispute about something and if you are as good as he says, why no selling to him?  I would like to see your wares but am cautious in this instance. Called on a day I wasnt really feeling all that great. I had a bunch of stuff going on accidentally answered the phone Andy asked if I had any 7725 so I took the handheld and the bicycle to the rack where I keep the 7725. I rattled off a bunch of rolls ALL 7725 he replied he just wanted 10 yards. I looked and found a 10 yard roll. 7725 38" with BGF"s silane 627 finish. He said how much and I was going to go back to the office and just look on quickbooks and said something like "ah,, with a delay and he said "how can you be in business if you dont know how much to charge?  He said that as I was heading back to the office on the bicycle.  Questioning how can I be in business?  I believe thats pretty much what got my bad attitude towards Andy going. Then later emailef me asking me if I was sending that black cloth. I had to think for a bit and figured out he was talking about th e style 7781 I had back some years back. I have over 2 milliion yards of cloth in stock and operate out of a 350000 sq ft bldg. I work my butt off every day and make sure the customer gets exactly what they n eed. I never have problems with customers. Andrew Anunson is a rare and special case. Steve Thayer. Thayercraft Inc

I just received another beautiful roll of BID from Ste ve Thayer at Thayercraft.  His packaging is excellent... In the several rolls I've bought from Steve, the fibers arrive straight and there are never any frayed edges.  Fast shipping and a great price.  Unfortunately he won't sell glass to me anymore, but the rest of you should consider him for your fiberglass needs.
