Re: Epoxy on sale
Better check again David. That price is added to the price of the smallest quantity sold (“.44 Pint”, which is $23.75). Add +$26.10 to $23.75 to get the .86 Quart price of $49.85.

Epoxy on sale
I happen to be on the West Marine email advertising list. Just got advert today about 25% off sale thru May 4th for composite supplies, including pretty much all of the West System (no relation to West Marine) products including resins, hardeners, fillers, and even epoxy pumps. If you are using West Systems epoxy for some portion of your project you might be able to save a few bucks.

Re: LED Landing light?

What's wrong with the plans landing light? It's plenty bright and fully adjustable for landing or taxi. I've used mine only for taxi since I don't land on unlighted runways at night. In fact I don't fly at night unless due to (my bad planning) it ends up that way. I have used it a few times during the day when on a long straight in to a tower airport and the tower says they don't see me yet. That works, especially since I have an auto turn signal unit wired into the three position toggle.

I had the plans incandescent light fail in my Cozy and I installed a pair of LEDs for $10 shipped on eBay. The pair are about 3000 LM and are available spot or flood Before installing them I tested them for RF interference and they tested very good.

About five years ago I promised my EZ a landing light for Christmas. Well, I've got some time on my hands now, does anyone have suggestions?
-I would prefer to minimize any composite work, so a bolt-on would be nice.
-I can put one in the forward access hatch but I'm concerned that it won't give good depth perception, does that work?
- I'm pretty good with metal work & have a full welding & machine shop

I would really like to see and hear how works for you after you fly it. I am not sure but by the looks of it on the ground, It may not luminate the runway effectively on your approach to the runway. Really interested in finding out how it worked!!

I've been working on a landing/taxi light for my VariEze, I took some photos of testing it the other day:
The LEDs are several lengths of this stuff:
Pros: - Efficient, runs around 12W for that much light
Haven't flown it yet, but I'll let you know when I do. My plan is to seal & attach it to the front of the strut with some electronics-grade silicone (Momentive RTV5818) to allow it to flex, along with some clear wing tape for secondary retention.

I epoxied a piece of small aluminum tubing from the underside of each side of my canopy. They meet in the middle just forward of my chest. This is where I mounted my Garmin GPS. When the canopy is open, it’s out of the way. Might work for the mini too. Soon I will know because I will be in the same situation as you. Where the GPS is mounted, I can over look it to view the rest of the panel. GM N600EZ

Ion, Izzy, All, I moved from Biggin over a year ago, too concerned with their exec. jets and ripping up protected woodland AND £50+ (c. $60) landing fees for little guys! The UK, concerned about commerce, was slow in starting its shutdown measures but once it got the idea the CAA, our FAA, stopped all 'leisure' flying to prevent people close-gathering. I ask you it's a 1/4 mile from the gate to my hangar and I'm the only one there .?? If others in the UK are still flying it is in defiance of the new regs. if so then good luck if they can do it. We're, UK, paying for that slow start now. I don't know what they are thinking of, the few commercial passengers still are coming in without any health checks, must be seeding despite our other 'measures'. In fairness to my field they had one ATC guy catch 'it' so they got very defensive, shut up shop and now have just one on duty. All the others are on furlough with 80% wages paid by the state. However, I bet I get a full hangarage bill next month - so I reckon that they are profiteering by it ;^( - Hope I'm wrong but I'll see... I see that New Zealand and Greece got onto it straight away and are now virtual free of it. (I visited NZ a number of times on business. They are the 'most English' country left in the world - it was a true pleasure dealing with them, thanks guys.) Meanwhile watching my garden grow is not quite a substitute for that 90deg bank after take-off and whizzing up for an 'Eze chase' against a mate around the clouds. Please excuse my rant!! Mike T

Ion, Due to the virus situation we can only ground-run engines at the moment. This is changing about now to 'test flights' but I still will not be visiting my field for a week or more. Thus no timely pictures of my iPad mounting setup in situ. But I do have my mini iPad home so took a couple of pictures of the RAM mount arrangement to give you some idea of how it goes. I have a spare 'ball' as for mounting on the longeron, somewhere, but couldn't locate it in time for the pici. It would add about 1.5" from the arm ball centre to the longeron. Viewing these pictures I would have said that the RAM 3" arm is too short but in practice I find it just right for my Vari Eze. It sits right where I want it ;^) Note Any longer and vibration issues might occur at low, taxi, revs. Incidentally the RAM arm makes a v handy handle for when the mini is not mounted in the plane. Hope this helps somewhat. Mike T

Re: Ipad mini panel mount
iPad panel mounts that are recessed i to the panel are problematic because of the rapid pace of technology updating. If you just do a RAM ball mount on the panel with a charging cable, then you can mount whatever you want to that ball mount. So of they come out with a better iPad, Or you smash the one you have three years from now and can’t get a replacement for that specific model, your not stuck having to recut the IP.

Sunspot LED is the same size as a typical certified one so it’s a direct replacement for the plans design light.

Any light will be plenty. Landing without a landing light altogether is not that challenging or dangerous since runway lights typically light up plenty IMHO. Taxi light? Open the canopy and hold a strong flashlight. Izzy
